Hyalase (hyaluronidase) is an animal-derived enzyme that can break down hyaluronic acid. Its use within the cosmetic industry is off-license but allowed provided the patient’s best interest and autonomy are respected as part of informed consent.
Complications from injecting Hyalase include bruising, swelling, allergic reaction and anaphylaxis reaction. Patients with allergic reaction to wasp or bee stings should be considered as contraindicated.
